Assessing Black Nationalism in Today's Society

Updated: Apr 16, 2019

The effort for black nationalism has evolved into many different forms, one of which is known as Black Lives Matter. This movement continues to fight for the right of black people to have social, political, and economic strength while creating a society that diminishes hate and anti-blackness. The Black Lives Matter organization is guided by the principle that all lives matter, regardless of economic status, sexual orientation, gender identification, or religious beliefs. Like Amiri Baraka's work, the world today continues to fight for complete justice for black people, whether that be through new methods and campaigns, or through the reminder of history and understanding ways to adapt to ideologies of previous civil rights leaders and activists.

For Keeps is a bookstore located in Atlanta, GA that sells many classic black books. Many of the rare collections are displayed on the walls, and other pieces are scattered across a table welcoming people to take a moment and interact with history. The bookstore has a wide variety of collections from different authors, but many works revolve around the black nationalism movement and the struggle for achieving civil equality.
